I've climbed here a few times in the past (always without any beta), and enjoyed it's unique and challenging qualities (soft yin compared to Vantage's yang). I climbed this in the middle of Sept. '08 - and question
it's "classic" reputation. I felt the only really great part was the
view... As far as climbing it was fun and good, but overall the route is more mediocre than classic. 11 pitches with
lots of bolts, some scrambling between - makes for easy route finding; 3 really

having a few 5.6 moves, upper crux more like 5.7 (instead of 5.8 or 5.9), - Lots of
question...

<wfCategory>rock climbing,washington,mazama,winthrop,prime rib,goat wall</wfCategory>

It has been a slow start for the rattler...

It has been a slow start for the rattlers this year, but this week I've gone climbing twice and seen 4 each time along the trail. I'm starting to get used to them....but I'm also wearing thick leather hiking boots and carrying a walking stick and considering getting snake gaiters. An older friend commented that they often den in loose rocky (talus) areas, and that's the kind of places I've seen them this spring.

<wfCategory>central washington rattlesnake encounters,eastern washington rattlesnakes,avoiding rattlesnakes,how to avoid rattlesnakes,rattlesnakes how to avoid,hiking poles in snake country,avoiding snakebites</wfCategory>
