The fact is that the current situation on our public lands is grossly unbalanced and unfairly favors the snowmobile users at the expense of the majority who want a place to recreate in the winter in peace and quiet.

Our first Subaru went to 190K before we donated it to a friend who was carless. Having done it twice now with kids in tow and camping out one night each trip I would agree with the safety concerns John mentions. Even the upper section can have trees and limbs across the water path so carry a small handsaw and have an experienced paddler leading your group. If you get disoriented in the marsh and tall grass just follow the river flow through some of the reeds and viola, you are back on track. Aha! My initial thought was that this did not seem to me to be the work of the fine FS employees that I know on the forest.

I can see how some can take an exception to user built trails of any sort. I wish there was more of an outcry when we see the numbers of motorized vehicles tresspassing in designated non-motorized areas. I believe there are several non-motorized areas up in the Twin Peaks area; one gate is signed closed to snowmobiles and motorbikes.

I understand the feelings here on both sides but first determine if in fact it was the FS that removed the trail? Second, remember that the FS land belongs to all of us and in defense of the FS action we can't all just go up into the forest and start building, cutting, digging, riding, wherever we want. Consider the scenario if anyone that wanted to could do what they please with our public lands?

Great article Andy. Last year I noticed the ruts getting bigger and deeper on the Tronsen Meadow Trail #1205 from the motorcycles. There was a downed log on the trail and the motorbikes just blazed a new trail around the log, if this keeps up the trail will eventually become a spider web of ruts and dips.

I did send in photos and a request to the FS to take a look at the trail use and see if they could either maintain the trail, i.e. fix the damage, or restrict the motorized use on that t...

<wfCategory>best trail running best hiking best mountain bikin, blewett pass hikes hiking, blewet pass rides mountain bike rides, blewett pass trail runs, tronsen meadows trail 1205</wfCategory>

Thanks Andy.

Well you now have one day left to comment (comments due by Sept. 28) so hurry and start writing. If you ski and snowshoe out of Wenatchee or Cashmere and use the Clara Lake/Beehive/Twin Peaks/#2 Canyon road please help protect this area from further erosion of what little quiet backcountry still exists there.

Write the Forest Service and let them know NOW. This pertains to you mountain bikers and backcountry horsemen also, we all value quiet, safe recreation.
