Magnet Creek Outings

Although ‘Magnet’ might imply this area attracts lots of people, it’s quite the opposite. Even on a huge weekend (e.g., Memorial Day or Labor Day) you’re likely to be alone on this airy but scenic hike near Blewett Pass.

A good early-season trip that climbs quickly  and efficiently to snow level. The terrain up top is mellow in pitch and the forest is fairly open, making this a nice tour for less-experienced skiers in early winter when the boards might need to be carried up the lower, steeper slopes. When the lower, steeper slopes are snow-covered, intermediate skills are required.

Improbable Turns - Skiing the Foothills

A poorly thrown Frisbee onto the backyard was the giveaway. I could walk across the snow blanketing the lawn without busting through the crust. I came indoors excited -- it was time to ski the foothills.

Stemilt Basin - The New-Year Tour

A New Year's Day circuit through the Stemilt Basin, the place where Mission Ridge was almost built 42 years ago, offers the best backcountry skiing of the year. Are we saying the skiing was 'killer' or stating the obvious (on the first day of the year how could the skiing be anything but the year's best)?
