Rock Island Grade Loop

This route with its mixture of paved, gravel, and dirt roads is best done on a mountain bike or cross bike. The loop exposes you to regional extremes-- rivers and deserts, industry and agriculture, paved urban trails and dirt county roads. The climb up Rock Island Grade is a grunt (you’ll appreciate a triple chain ring) while the descent of Badger Mountain Road is a screamer.

Mountain Home Road

A dirt road connecting from Leavenworth to the Blewett Pass Road passing through nice forests and with expansive views of town and Icicle Canyon. Technically easy -- a good ride for beginning mountain bikers to develop skills and to gauge their fitness.

Basalt Peak Loop

One of the few trails open to mountain bikes and closed to dirt bikes, this trail doesn't get heavy and is well maintained. The long ascent is mostly ridable and rewarded with fantastic views of the Cascades and a stellar descent. Local rider, Ray Birks, submitted this turn-by-turn update.

Stehekin Mtn Bike Rides

Mountain bikes or cross bikes are among the best ways to get around if you’ll be visiting and staying in Stehekin. From the ferry landing at the end of Lake Chelan, there are about 15 miles of road taking you up the Stehekin River into the Cascades. The road is fun to ride in and of itself, but you can also combine a ride with one of the hikes leaving from the road. The scenery is beautiful and the riding is quite flat.

Mad River (Upper) to Mad Lake

Great views and a beautiful (albeit a popular and well utilized) alpine lake at the top of the trail. Many difficult but navigable climbs that reward with outstanding views of Lake Wenatchee and the Cascades. There are many spurs leading off this trail. Stay on the main trail or enjoy romping around on the many spurs!

Wenatchee River Road

This trail travels through lowland forests and cruises along a refreshingly undeveloped portion of the Wenatchee River.

Twentyfive Mile Creek (Chelan)

One of several great rides above Lake Chelan and considered by some to be one of the better rides in the state. The route as described uses roads to climb and then descends on trail. That descent is fast and furious.

Tumwater Mountain

The climb up Tumwater Mountain (above Leavenworth) on Forest Road 7701 is a steady grind that gets the heart hammering. The road is well graded but it’s also relentless, gaining 2,700 feet over the course of five miles. While the ride is not technically challenging-- it works your heart, and gives your eyes plenty to feast on.
