Treasure on the Loop: Gift Card Giveaway

Last week I walked down to the WRPC boathouse, hoping a canoe ride on the Columbia would clear my head of workday fuzz. The bottom of the boathouse shed is spooky enough in its own right, so my terror was acute upon hearing shrill yowls brewing behind the double doors. “Strange”, I thought, “Maybe a paddler accidentally locked a fox or a marmot in the shed…” With bated breath I ripped open the heavy wooden doors, and to my greatest horror and surprise I saw the two awful figures of….. the Squilchuck Trolls

Fortunately, the sudden influx of sunshine paralyzed the wretched gremlins and bought me time to lasso them together with a lifejacket.
Knowing that the Squilchuck Trolls have an infamous lust for candy, Legos, and other such precious knickknacks, I greedily commanded they take me to their closest trove. To my chagrin, their lair contained none of the fabled stores of Reeses, Tootsie rolls, and Skittles. I roared with anger and demanded the trolls lead me to their treasure. A small, knobby hand tugged on my sleeve and pointed deep under the roots to reveal a small treasure chest, which appeared to contain a Sports Outlet gift card. I reached my greedy paw into the dark treasure pit, jowls aquiver at the thought of the prize that was soon to be mine….

Photo: The treasure was well hidden in an empty chocolate almond box. The trolls, of course, spared no trace of chocolate.

…and was thrown backward into the leaves by a powerful, searing shock. The Trolls howled that I was not worthy, and that the treasure could only be claimed by its rightful owner. I carted the Trolls away to make ammends by waffle cone at the Owl Soda Fountain, leaving the treasure unattended in its lair.

Although the prize will never be mine, I hope that as clues are revealed in the coming days a valiant WenatcheeOutdoors reader will locate and claim this most fickle and valuable of prizes.
