Palisades - Moses Coulee

ATTRACTIONS: Beautiful scenery with cliffs sculpted by ice age floods. Fields of grass and alfalfa contrast against the rust-colored cliffs and blue sky. And good weather is almost guaranteed

SKILL: 1 (easy).  FITNESS: 2 (intermediate).

DISTANCE: 30 to 40 miles roundtrip

ELEVATION: several hundred feet.

ACCESS (starting from known town/highway): Drive Highway 28 east from Wenatchee. At milepost 14.5  turn left on Palisades Road. Drive 0.3 miles to the Palisades substation on your left and park at the substation well out of the way of any service vehicles and gates related to the substation.

TRIP INSTRUCTIONS:

  • This is an uncomplicated ride. Ride the Palisades Road north as far as time and energy allow. The shoulder of the road is not wide but the road is straight and has little traffic.
  • At milepost 11.1 you’ll pass the Palisades School, at 11.3 the Palisades Country Store.
  • At milepost 14.3, Wagon Road takes off on the left. This is the road used to access the south end of Douglas Creek (for mountain biking and hiking).
  • At milepost 15.6, the pavement ends. The dirt road beyond sn actually very good and, with a little care, is easily ridable for another several miles.
  • Return by retracing your ride.

RECOMMENDED SEASON: This road is ridable much of the year, even much of the winter. If you ride it in summer, do so early or late in the day
